It is almost time for our Black Lives Community Rally, this Sunday
at 1:30 - 2:30 pm in front of UUCMC. We have indeed gotten some attention
in the press and social media. We have had many more calls and offers
of support than negative messages as most people, including our own
police department, understand that our intention is not to polarize but to
bring folks together to work for racial justice. The purpose of the rally is
to express our support and to share our concerns with other people of faith
in Monmouth County.
We will have some chairs set up but also encourage you to bring a lawn chair
or blanket to sit on. Bring your signs, wear your t-shirts and join us as we
make a public commitment to a community built upon racial justice
and relationships of goodwill and harmony.
Our list of guest speakers includes:
Black Lives Matter Asbury Park - Jennifer Lewinski
Pilgrim Baptist Church - Kerwin Webb
Holmdel Community Church UCC - Rev. Rusty Eidman Hicks
Food Justice at Trinity, Asbury Park, Derek Minno Bloom
Racial Justice Project of Asbury Park - Liza Minno Bloom
Middletown Police Department - Chief of Police Craig Weber
UU Congregation of Monmouth County - Rev. Virginia Jarocha-Ernst
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT PARKING THIS SUNDAY
In order to accommodate our guests for the rally please move cars out of the
front lot by 12:30pm. The front parking lot will be closed to all traffic between
1pm and 3pm. William Van Wyke and others will be available to help
those using handicap parking who wish to stay for the rally. Thank you
for your cooperation and help in making UUCMC as welcoming as possible
for this public event.
